This magnificent Sports Complex is built to Olympic standards. It was built in 1937. It is a multi use stadium with its main attractions being its international size football ground and its eight-lane mono synthetic track. It is the largest sports arena of Jamshedpur having a capacity of holding 40,000 spectators.
It provides facilities for sports like table tennis, volleyball, handball and hockey. The main objective of establishing this sports complex was to provide world-class facilities to the upcoming sports person so that they can make a mark in the international sports arena. A modern multi gymnasium, a sports hostel and an administrative block are also housed in the complex. It has a full service fitness centre which is free for resident athletes and is accessible to the citizens of Jamshedpur for a fee.
The Keenan Stadium is a Cricket ground and stadium built in the year 1939 in the name of Sir John Lawrence Keenan who was a former general manager of the Tata Steel.
Though the stadium came into being in the year 1939, it had to wait for nearly two decades to get an international recognition. The stadium hosts the domestic level Ranji Trophy matches for the Jharkhand cricket team. It is one of the primary stadiums in eastern India having already hosted 9 international ODI matches. This well known stadium has hosted several One Day International cricket matches.
This 10,000 capacity stdium at telco has hosted many national and state level events.
The Tata Football Academy (TFA) was established in the year 1987. It is a residential academy that selects boys of the age of 14 and under and gives them all the necessary training in football sport. The aim of the Academy is to provide an ideal ambience for promising footballers to develop their potential to the fullest.
Built on an area of 25,000 square feet, TFA provides world-class facilities to the trainees. The Academy not only provides intensive training but also all-round developmental opportunities with facilities for formal education and vocational training. The fully residential programme includes special features such as boarding & lodging, monthly stipend, playing kits, summer & winter clothing, ceremonial kits, comprehensive medical care, education and other benefits.
Archery is a popular sport amongst the tribal people of the region. Promoting archery in the national interest, The Tata Archery Academy has all the requisite training facilities like experienced coaches, archery ground with flood lights, state-of-the-art equipment as well as hostel and gymnasium facilities for its cadets. All in all, TAA provides the cadets all necessary facilities and training to bring them up to international competition standards in Archery.
A nationally selected group of boys & girls in the age of 13-18 years are given a four year Archery course. High performing cadets get extended training during which they are also imparted formal education. The TAA cadets are also provided opportunity to participate in national and international championships and win awards and accolades.
The Jamshedpur Rifle Club was established in 1954, and is one of the oldest rifle clubs in the country. It has affiliation with the National Rifle Association of India. Trainers are available to train new members who do not have experience of shooting.
The Jamshedpur Horse Riding School has built a reputation for offering safe and relaxed horse riding for both children and adults. Set amongst beautiful scenic surrounds, the school is indeed a very nice place, with quite a good lot of fine breed of horses, which one would love riding. Horse Riding is still not a popular sport in the Steel City. However the school enrols people from different walks of life to generate more interest among the general populace. Apart from training on horses, Equestrian events, including show jumping, have been added to the school's activities in order to add more zing to the curriculum.
Tuition is offered for beginners to advanced children & adults, incorporating safety procedures, horsemanship skills, general riding skills, dressage, jumping, sporting and preparation for competition.
Golf is increasingly becoming a popular sport in Jamshedpur. There are two Golf courses in Jamshedpur namely the Beldih Golf Course and the Golmuri Golf Course. Every year the Tata Open Golf tournament is held in the Steel City.
The Beldih Golf Course is a lush green, beautiful and very well-maintained golf course, with the charming Dalma Hills in the background. The course is quite challenging, with long fairways, one of which is nearly 600 yards. It has a wonderful pavilion and a state-of-the-art floodlit driving range.
